Are we still who we are?
June 7, 2009
When you look at yourself in the mirror, what do you see?
-Someone with a really big tummy?
-Someone with big boobs, nice ass and hot body?
-Someone who’s really skinny and scary?
-Some who wonders why he/she isn’t an actor in hollywood when he/she is so good looking?
Everyone sees a different image of themselves when they look at themselves in the mirror. So If I ask you…..
Do you look the same as how you did 10 years back? or…
Will you look the same 10 years later?
How will you answer?
Upon reading the above 2 questions you might be thinking to yourself: ”Ha. Are you retarded? Of course not! We change! ” Then you roll your eyes or something.
There might be a minority of people who remains the same after 10 years but the thing is, right now I am not trying to talk about the physical appearance. I am talking about change. Not only does our physical appearance change, our thoughts; our beliefs and the lifestyle we have changes too. But the thing is, sometimes there will be such a drastic change that a person who is here right now might be an entirely different person 10 years ago or 10 years later. Then the big question comes in:
Are you still the same person? Compared to the person 10 years back or 10 years later?
If you are not, what happens to the person that you were 10 years back? He disappears. Where did he go? And what about you? 10 years later, will you disappear too? Like how the person that you were 10 years back did?
People change for the better. We thrash out beliefs or actions that doesn’t benefit us and improve as a person. However, I think that, in a way, each of us dies everyday. Tonight, after you sleep, you might not be the same person you are when you wake up in the morning the next day. What happens to today? What happens to the present? What happens to the person that is living today?
It becomes the past.
So, at the end of the day, are we still the same person? As before? Or will we die after today, letting a “new” us live our life?
Are we still who we are?
I guess at the end of the day, we just gotta take control and appreciate every moment of our live.
Let’s make our days count.
Today is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present.
Carpe Diem!
Push-ups as a betting chip.
May 24, 2009
For this post I would like to post about doing push-ups and how it is used as a betting chip between my friends and I.
Some people might find it childish or retarded to bet with push-ups because it’s quite funny and stupid to witness a scene of someone doing push-ups just because he lost a bet. But the reason for this is relatively simple. What’s the closest thing that you use for betting?
Yup, the thing that makes the whole world goes round.
MONEY.
Most of us don’t work so we don’t have much money right now. So if someone loses a bet the person might go lunch-less for maybe a week or even a month. So the stakes are really too high. Maybe in the future when we work and earn money we would use it to bet, but for now, it’s push-ups.
So how did the whole betting with push-up thingy started?
Well if I remember correctly it started because sometimes, we play basketball with a low level of intensity. Which would result in a crappy basketball game. So someone suggested that the losers do pushups so all of us would play seriously and that’s probably how the whole thing started.
Anyway right now I am gonna talk about this long “heated” rivalry that I have with one of my friends. I won’t expose him name so I am gonna give him a nickname for this post. His name is fatty.
Basically among all of our friends only fatty and I are from our school’s basketball team. We’ve pretty much been trying to cut each other’s neck to claim the “I-am-better-than-you-bitch” position. I don’t exactly remember why but we are constantly trying to outdo each other. Maybe it’s because he doesn’t like my face and I happen to not like his either.
Anyway our rivalry began with a simple shooting competition. People who play basketball would know “ABC”. It’s basically a game where you shoot from different angles of the court and try to finish it before your opponent does. To make things short, I beat the shit out of his ass in ABC because he can’t really shoot well. We had a bet so in the end he had to do push-ups. When he was doing his push-ups I was beside him and was putting my hands on my waist, shaking my head and saying “Hahahaha Loser~” which got him pretty mad.
He was pretty angry and he had his revenge on me the other day when all of us went to play pool. He challenged me and I thought he sucked ( He didn’t have the pool-pro face ) and so I accepted it. Sadly he happened to be pretty good so I got my ass kicked pretty badly by him. However in the first place I suck at pool anyway. Then again , I would have accepted it even if I knew he’s damn good at pool.
I did my push-ups the next day at the basketball court and he was doing the same thing I did to him, laughing and saying all the funny insults and everything. That got me pumped a up and so I challenged him to a bet with a simple basketball 1-on-1 match. Was a close game but I happened to win and so it was his turn to do push-ups. This time round did I laugh at him while he was doing push-ups? Being the kind-hearted and good guy that I am, OF COURSE I DID.
Anyway there are a few more bets we had with push-ups but those are small fries compared to the above 3 scenarios because we had to do lots of push-ups for the above challenges.
Currently, we are having a new bet which involves chess. Yup, chess. Chinese chess to be exact. We play it on viwawa and decided that the competition would be a best-of-7. Loser do push-ups.
But the Stakes for this time round are much higher.
2 sets of 50-pushups with only 10 seconds of rest in between. This is nothing though compared with what else is involved in this bet. The loser has to do them in the middle of the basketball court that we play at in front of every1 and shout out the number of pus-ups. ( Example: 1,2,3 so on. ) It’s all right to do it in front of our own friends, but there are always other people around at the basketball court. So basically the objective of this bet is to make the loser suffer humiliation. So what are the results for this chess-bet so far?
The score is 0-2 right now. I am trailing. It’s best of 7 so 2 more wins for him and I am a goner. Truth be told his skill level for playing chess is higher than me. But I’ve already accepted the challenge, so I am gonna fight hard and hopefully I can reach 4 wins before he does. I really want to win this man.
If I happen to win I would take the photo of my friend doing push-ups and post it on this blog. If there’s no photo ….well that obviously means that I lost. There’s no way I am gonna post a picture of me defeated on my own blog.
Wish me luck hopefully I can kick his ass in…….. … chess.
Speeding kills.

Today I witnessed a scene which was really saddening.
A scene of a fatal accident. I saw the policemen placing the cloth over the face of the dead victim at the precise moment. How unlucky of me. It was a serious car crash involving a motorcyclist and a truck. Pieces and parts of both vehicles were scattered all over the road. There was a huge dent on the side on the truck and the guy who died was the motorcyclist. The scene kind of ruined the rest of the day for me. Hopefully the person who died finds peace in his afterlife; and may his parents and friends find solace in their misery and sorrow.
I wasn’t there to witness the whole crash; the truck banging the cyclist or the other way round. But it was still pretty depressing nonetheless. Sadly, this was not the first time I’ve witnessed such an incident. There was actually this accident that happened just outside my house near the road where a biker crashed into the tree. There was also another one involving a teenage girl who got rammed by a car near the bus stop I alight from bus 67. The accident about the girl came up on the newspaper. I always see the ambulance, medics and policemen surrounding the accident venue. 3 times so far. All fatal. Man I should go buy lottery tickets or something.
Anyway I think there has been far too many car accidents happening. There are just too many people speeding nowadays. I always happen to see reckless drivers driving so fast that it seems as if if they don’t, they will lose one or two of their balls or something. Or people that spams the exhaust of their motorbikes at night, creating noise pollution, waking people up in the middle of the night. Or some dick-face that drives at like 1000km per second in those small roads. What the hell? Is speeding really that fun? I hate using vulgarities but I think these reckless drivers should just go fuck themselves with the wall or something like that. If you want to play with your own life, it’s your problem. Why play with other people’s life?
Argh what a sad post. Alright to brighten up this post I am going to put up some movie reviews.
Angels and Demons is actually quite a nice movie. Star trek was awesome in my opinion. Wolverine sucked.
…Ok it didn’t really had the effect of giving out positive energy…
Heck, anyway hopefully I get to witness more happy scenes from now on…
Sports
May 14, 2009
I just realized that in the first post I forgot to mention that I am actually a sportsperson.
So, yeah, right now I am going to shout out to the whole world that I am a sportsperson.
My sport back in secondary school is basketball and I’ve pretty much played competitive basketball for 4 years. However, the truth is I’ve actually started playing basketball way back like in primary 2 or 3, I can’t really recall much.
Back then I wanted to join basketball in my primary school but it was’nt there so I didn’t join a CCA for my entire primary school life. ( Amazing eh? ) I was really stubborn and didn’t want to join any sport CCA unless it’s basketball so I’ve stayed CCA-less for the whole time. I think I did some activity to boost my CCA points or something but the thing is…I forgot what it is. Sometimes I still ask myself why I didn’t stepped up and try to form a basketball club back then. But I am not the kind of person that chooses to regret on what I’ve done so…..yeah. I love my primary school life. It was damn slack ,fun and there wasn’t a need to study.
In the end I’ve pretty much ” waited ” for 4 or 5 years so that I could join basketball in secondary school. Until now I can still remember the anticipation and adrenaline-rush and other different emotions I had on the day of the trials. However when I played against some secondary 2 school team players they turned out to be quite a big disappointment.
Over the past 4 years a lot of shit has happened but also at the same time I’ve experienced lots of memorable and happy times. Anyway I kind of got tired of everything plus I had some minor injuries and so I’ve decided to quit playing competitive basketball.
I wanted to join a new sport in poly so I tried dragon boating and canoe polo but…let’s just say these sports doesn’t appeal to me that much. The training is tough and cool but when I think about training so hard just to row the boat or row paddles I get kind of… turned off? But then again I went to these training with a I-am-here-just-for-fun-but-not-to-compete mentality and that’s probably why I didn’t really enjoy it. I guess sports can only be fun if you get competitive with it. However, for some people they can enjoy sports even when they don’t have a competitive mindset. But the problem with me is that I can’t enjoy sports if I am fooling around. That’s me. =/
I am the kind of person that chooses not to do something if I don’t love it real much so I think I won’t be joining sports as my CCA. However,CCA points are important so I am thinking of joining some slack CCAs such as chess club ( Stay in air-con room, play chess, get CCA points. WOOT!? ) that would’nt take up much of my time or energy.
By reading the above paragraphs it might seem as if I retired from the world of sports but the truth is I still do some sports. I jog every now and then ( Rarely now since school is ongoing ), go to the gym on a regular basis, and enjoy some streetball games with my friends. My friends and I meet up every saturday in the morning to play some decent basketball.
Anyway I am going to conclude this post with a simple quote by myself : Sports are cool! Yay!
Huh? What do you mean when you say it’s not a quote?
And I just so happened to come across this song which is pretty nice, and it’s a local song. So watch it to support Singapore talent? By the way the vid seemed to have won something. Alright stop reading and view this vid.
Chain Reaction
May 9, 2009
Today is Saturday.
During lunchtime, My father, sister and I went to Tiong Bahru to have our lunch.
We had this mifen that had a home-cooked feel to it and bought curry chicken as takeaway for dinner.
My father paid for the meal and after that, we got on the road with the car and headed back home, and that’s when tragedy happened.
Tragedy? Could it be a….Car Crash? Someone committing suicide? Or Mal Selamat escaping again?
Luckily, it was none of the above. The ride got bumpy and so my father parked his car by the side of the road and we came out to check out what happened. It happened that a piece of metal thingy was stuck on the tire and the tire was losing it’s air, fast. So we had to change the tire and luckily we have a spare one at the back. My father called some repair man to come fix it because he was lazy and did not feel like doing it by himself. But the thing was, it took 1 hour and a half for the man to arrive. Precious time wasted just like that. How sad.
But then it suddenly struck my mind. We could have avoided this. In fact, there were so many ways we could have avoided this.
-If we left after eating and didn’t bought curry as takeaway.
-If my father took a different lane when he was driving.
-If my sister went to the toilet before we left.
-If I was the one paying for the meal instead of my father.
-Or if we didn’t went to Tiong Bahru to eat in the first place.
Basically what I am trying to say here is in life, things happen like a chain reaction. It’s like what we do would affect what happens next, and then another , and then it continues on and on. It’s like You wake up one day, decides that you want to have a jog in the morning. But after that you drive to work and your head gets kinda dizzy because you are tired and BANG. You wasn’t concentrating on driving and a lorry hit u and you leave the world just like that. Or you wake up in the morning and had to make a choice between having french toast or scramble eggs for breakfast. If you eat the french toast you might feel thirsty and you get a cup of water and drink and you happen to choke on it, and …yup there you go again to Heaven( or hell ). And if you made the decision of eating scrambled eggs you might get a stomachache and go to the toilet. After that you rush to work because you are going to be late but you saw an old lady lying on the middle of the road and you think to yourself ” I am late anyway” and comes out to help her out despite knowing the consequences. But the old lady you helped might be the mother of some Big Shot and he somehow found out that you helped her mum and gave you a job that pays 120k a month.
I think there’s a name for this, something like the butterfly effect or something.
So what am i trying to say here? I am not too sure myself but since I’ve typed out so many words I might as well post it.
Lets just conclude it with: Time Waits For No Man, It Delivers All To The Same End,( <-Shit, it rhymes.) So while we are here we might as well do what we want , what we like, what we believe in. There is no need to force yourself to do anything you hate unless you thinks it benefits you. No point trying to fit in some sort of group or try to implement your beliefs and ideals on other people. There is no need to make anyone like you and no need to hate anyone. Fame and Glory is nothing compared with true friends. And remember to tell those precious people around you how important they are. Have an open mind and be free and so if we die, we die with no regrets.
Cheers.
A new beginning
April 24, 2009
It seemed just like yesterday that i had my O levels, and i still remember the relief i felt and the anticipation i had for the holidays ahead back then. I’ve had a wonderful time since then, a break that lasted for almost 6 months. I think i’ve had a fair amount of rest and good time so far.(But of course , i would’nt mind having more!) Back then, sometimes it felt as if the holidays would never end. But before i knew it……the first day of school started… the first week of school came and went …and right now here i am , sitting on my chair, staring at my laptop and typing away for the school assisgnment.
Boy oh boy… how time flies.
Poly life has been considered quite fun so far. It’s just that sometimes I wish i had some of my good pals over here in Ngee Ann. (Most of them are in SP) but it’s alright , because it’s not like i won’t get to see them ever again. For me, i think poly life beats secondary school life….because of the schedule. ( We don’t have school on thursday~~!) Schoolwork is piling up, but right now i think i can still handle it. Sometimes it gets kinda tiring…take wednesday for example: Sketching for 5 hours. = = But it’s fun nonetheless. The classmates i have are friendly and cool…just that one of them is extremely noisy and irritating. Oops? The lecturers are also decent and knowledgable. Plus the environment and vibes in Ngee Ann is also pretty good. The only complain i have is that sometimes the lessons crash with the CCAs. Currently i am still in the midst of adjusting to this new type of life and hopefully the next 3 years down the road would be an enjoyable and fruitful experience.
Actually i plan to end this post just like that but i think it’s really too short so i’ve decided to come out with a list of 10 things about myself.
1. I hate coke and vegetables.
2. I LOVE CURRY.
3. I was forced to learn the piano when i was a kid so i am not much of a fan of music like the rest of the people.
4. One of my favourite hobbies is basketball and it just so happens that im a laker’s fan. Go kobe~
5. I don’t really enjoy doing housework. (who does?!)
6. I don’t talk too much because……Umm……because that’s a part of my personality?
7. I am quite a health-conscious guy. Apart from the fact that i dont eat vegetables.
8. I kinda enjoy reading but good books are hard to find.
9. I like to sprint for the last 100m when i am jogging.
10. …i like eating apples?
Yup that’s about it. This will be my first post for the blog.
